After Ronaldo gave his side a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute, Eibar did not switch off for a moment and made sure that the Madrid side did not do much damage to their game plan.

"For me he's from another galaxy", Real coach Zidane said. Chelsea will be very hard, and the fans know we have to be together.

Real now sit just four points behind Atletico in the standings, while Eibar remain in eighth despite a valiant effort against the defending champions.

The win followed Real's Champions League win at Paris St-Germain, by which they secured qualification for the quarter-finals.

The hosts started well but Ronaldo opened the scoring with a neat finish from Luka Modric's ball.

"Luka was out for nearly three weeks, came back and played very well", he said.

"Neymar's injury is unfortunate, but I'm convinced that he'll be back for the summer and we can count on other very good players".

Mkhitaryan scores as Arsenal thrash Watford 3-0
We are in a job where we have to get the fans on our side and do absolutely everything to do it, to achieve it. It was the first time in 16 attempts that Cech saved a penalty since moving to Arsenal from Chelsea .

Gareth Bale and Isco returned, having been on the bench at Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, with the Spain worldwide in particular having a quiet game.

Raphael Varane had to be replaced by Nacho early on after taking a bang to the head but, against the run of play, Real edged ahead in the 33rd minute.

Eibar attempted to get back into the match for the second time, but Real were able to hold on to an important win which effectively keeps the club in the race for the runners-up spot in Spain's top flight.

With 50 minutes on the clock, Ramis headed home unchallenged from the resultant corner from Pedro Leon.

Isco and Kroos made way for Benzema and Lucas Vazquez with 19 minutes left but Eibar had two golden chances to score a second.

Real were ragged early on as Takashi Inui, Kike Garcia and Joan Jordan all went close to giving Eibar the lead.

Although Ronaldo once again rose to the occasion to snatch a brilliant goal with just 6 minutes of regular time to go, the question on everyone's mind was, where did Sergio Ramos go? They are two points behind the European places.
