Karti Chidambarams father P Chidambaram was also present in the courtroom.

The Delhi court ordered the jail authorities to ensure that adequate security is provided to Karti Chidambaram until March 24.

The defence counsels requested the court to issue direction regarding allotment of separate prison during his judicial custody.

Soon after the CBI court's order allowing the plea to send him to judicial custody as it did not want custodial interrogation any more, Karti moved the Delhi High Court seeking bail, which said the matter will be heard on Tuesday.

To this, Krishnan said it was shocking that the investigating agency was objecting to Karti's security in jail and such objection also enhanced the threat perception.

The counsel had sought a separate cell for Karti Chidambaram while citing possible threats from "terrorists" lodged at Tihar jail during P Chidambaram's stint as home minister.

"Only keeping in view the fact of social status of accused and his father, he can not be treated different from other accused persons and can not be allowed to be kept in a separate prison", the court said. Karti's counsel in petition said that "How can an investigative agency deny me my security".

After the hearing of arguments from both sides, Karti was sent to custody for 12 days till March 24 and also, his demand for home food was rejected by the court.

Meanwhile, Karti's CA S Bhaskararaman, who is now in jail in a case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has moved the court for anticipatory bail in the CBI case of INX Media. "We filed a caveat before the SC that in case ED is going to file an appeal, they'll have to intimate us".

Karti was arrested in connection with the INX media case from Chennai Airport on February 28 on his arrival from the United Kingdom.

The former finance minister's son is being investigated by the CBI for laundering money he received as payoffs to facilitate investment approval in INX Media when his father was the country's finance minister.

The fresh evidence in the case, which triggered Karti's arrest, was based on the statement of Indrani Mukerjea, former director of INX Media (P) Ltd, who recorded it under Section 164 of Code of Criminal Procedure before a magistrate on 17 February.
