Brookman said that Bryant does not pose a threat to his community and has not had any contact with law enforcement for six years.

It's not clear if Bryant had a ticket to the Governors Ball, but an AP video, which you can watch above, shows him walking alongside McDormand and her entourage as they entered the party.

On Wednesday, Terry Bryant, the man who stole the award appeared in court and pled not guilty.

Authorities are on the case of what really happened to Frances McDormand's Oscar.

Outside court, Mr Brookman addressed the footage, saying: "There's a difference between holding an Oscar and what he is charged with, so that will play out in court". Bryant has been charged with felony grand theft.

According to Los Angeles police officer Sgt. Meghan Aguilar, a photographer had stopped Bryant from leaving the party with the award because they did not recognise him as a victor, so followed the DJ - who had a legitimate ticket to the party - and took the statuette from him without any resistance.

"I don't think his character matches these charges", he added, the AP reported. Yes, he actually posted video evidence of his alleged crime, which is why attorney Daniel Brookman argues that his client had no intention of actually stealing the award.

According to TMZ, McDormand notified security at the Hollywood & Highland Center after noticing that her Oscar was missing from her table, prompting a party-wide search.

Past jail records show that Bryant has been arrested multiple times on suspicion of theft, assault and trespassing in the state of OR, reported ABC 7 in Los Angeles. If convicted, Bryant, 47, faces up to three years behind bars.
