Asus has announced the new Asus ZenFone 5 series smartphones at an event at Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona, Spain. According to the company, Zenfone Max Plus (M1) is a compact smartphone as they have managed to put a 5.7-inch ZenFone Max fit into the body of a standard 5.2-inch phone. We couldn't test it out in depth but it did sound better most phones we've tried.

Now that we've settled that ZenFone 5 looks incredible, let's check out what technology and hardware specs it uses and see what it can do.

As far as a ZenFone 5Z release date, we've only got "later in the year" for the United Kingdom release date. The front is largely dominated by a massive 6.2-inch screen with a resolution of Full HD+ and brightness of 500 nits. The aspect ratio of this phone is 19:9 which is taller than Samsung's Galaxy S9 but less than the iPhone X's length. Their so-called "AI Charging" tech also keeps the phone from charging to 100 percent overnight, which apparently extends longevity as well. There's a triple slot housing two SIM cards and one microSD alongside them, and a fingerprint scanner is included on the back. It looks like Apple's latest iPhone X because it features a full screen display that's paired with a top notch. Meanwhile, the 8MP front lens with f/2.0 aperture offers an 84-degree field of view and instant camera switching.

Asus delivers the two ZenFones with Android 8 Oreo and its own Zen UI. Both are powered by a 3300mAh battery. The smartphone comes packed with several connectivity options like - 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, GPS/ A-GPS, FM radio, USB Type-C, and 3.5mm headphone jack.

The ZenFone 5 family includes the ZenFone 5 Lite, 5, and 5Z. The smartphone's variants go up to 8GB RAM and 256GB of inbuilt storage.

It's barely six months since the ZenFone 4 arrived in shops, but the ZenFone 5Z isn't its successor. The phone will be a dual sim phone and will launch running Android version Oreo with Asus ZenUI 5.0 on top of that.

During my brief use of the phones, they felt well-built and looked just as good as any other premium phone.

There are differences, of course: With a 6.2-inch screen, the ZenFone 5 is larger than the iPhone X. Its notch is a bit narrower, and its bottom bezels is a bit bigger than the one on the iPhone X (there's no fingerprint sensor there, though - it resides on the other side of the phone). While the ZenFone 5Z will start at €479 (approximately Rs38,121), the price of the mid range variant has not been released yet.

"Powered by powerful Snapdragon Mobile Platforms, ZenFone 5Z (Snapdragon 845 with the AIE) and ZenFone 5 (Snapdragon 636) will support superior user experiences that include dual cameras and artificial intelligence", said Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 430 and will be available in 2GB/16GB, 2GB/32GB and 3GB/32GB variants. Some of the most powerful smartphones of the year have been displayed. In addition to this, the phones will ship with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM. It will be available in Midnight Blue and Meteor Silver colour variants. At the front, the device sports an 8 Megapixel of camera as a selfie shooter camera as front facing camera.
