Reese Witherspoon says leaving an abusive relationship "completely changed" her

While leaving her abusive relationship was the "most hard decision" she had ever made, she revealed that it empowered her. "People say to me that knew me then, "You're a completely different person, '" said Witherspoon".

One of the Time's Up movement's forerunners Reese Witherspoon opens up about a previous relationship that left her psychologically and verbally abused.

The actress, producer and lifestyle guru has opened up to her A Wrinkle in Time co-star, Oprah Winfrey, in a new interview, revealing her decision to walk away from a negative relationship in her 20s was truly life changing.

"After hearing all the stories these past few days and hearing these courageous women speak up tonight about things that we're kind of told to sweep under the rug and not to talk about, it's made me want to speak up and speak up loudly because I actually felt less alone this week than I have ever felt in my entire career", Witherspoon said at the time, according to Deadline.

Reese, on the cultural climate today: "I think our culture's more alive and vibrant than it's ever been".

"None of those leaving those's wrought with self-doubt, particularly if someone damages your self-esteem".

Winfrey also recalls her experience with verbal abuse in her 20s.

She also sympathised with other women who find themselves in a similar place. "I've seen this happen over and over and over again", Winfrey begins. "Women are talking about things they've never spoken about, and they're actually being heard".

Back in October at Elle's 24th Annual Women in Hollywood Celebration, Witherspoon delivered an emotional speech where she revealed that she had endured sexual harassment and assault as a young actress in Hollywood.

She said she realised this after her hand was slammed in to a door.
