A press conference was held on Monday where the organization's Secretary, Debashish Sarkar, shared that the people will be able to witness the "super moon", "blue moon" and "blood moon" in the evening.

NASA says the West Coast will get the best view of the moon on Wednesday, but the entire US will get at least a partial look.

The full eclipse will begin around 6:50 a.m. But have you heard of a Super, Blue Blood Moon?

"From about 4:50 about 7:30 a.m., it's going to be visible", Wetzel said. A "supermoon" is when the moon is at its closest point to the earth.

We have all heard of a "blue moon", the phrase originating in the 60s and recently terms like "super moon" and "blood moon" have become increasingly buzz-worthy as well. "Itll be a little bigger, a little bit brighter".

The first lunar eclipse of 2018 will occur on January 31 when the moon will appear in three different colours. This is sometimes referred to as a "blood moon" because of the reddish appearance the moon takes on.

"Weather permitting, the West Coast, Alaska and Hawaii will have a spectacular view of totality from start to finish", said Gordon Johnston, program executive and lunar blogger at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "The eclipse begins at 5:51 a.m. (EDT), as the moon is about to set in the western sky, and the sky is getting lighter in the east".

A blue moon is used to describe a second full moon in a month. Blue moons only happen about once every 2.7 years.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes within Earth's umbra (shadow).

NASA will livestream the total lunar eclipse from three observatories in the West for those who can not see it due to geographic location or weather.

The lunar event is when a supermoon, a red moon and a blue moon happen at the same time.
