Now, Instagram users in Europe have been gaining access to the feature as well.

If you have ever used Facebook or WhatsApp stories, you must have noticed an option to put up plain text-based stories, against colorful backgrounds.

It's been in the making for a couple of months, but now it's quasi-official; Instagram is testing a new type of Stories, called Type.

Instagram declined to comment directly on the potential feature, sending along a generic response that it's always working on new, cool stuff. And, the talk is about the "Type" feature to Stories that lets users post Instagram Stories without photos or videos and only text. Although, we have been able to see the feature available on a bunch of iOS and Android devices around us, but that could be pure coincidence. According to The Next Web, the feature is called "Type" and it sits alongside existing camera options like Boomerang and Rewind.

You can even add your own photo as the background, and Instagram will automatically add a filter to your image to make the text easy to read, TNW notes.

In the meantime there are reports of other features that WhatsApp is testing, such as screenshot notifications for when someone takes a screenshot of their stories.

According to the report, some users are seeing a new alert pop up after taking a screenshot that says, "The next time you take a screenshot of a story, the person who posted it will be notified".

Furthermore, it will be possible to mention Instagram users in your text stories, and they may repost it for 24 hours.

And, as shown by Snapchat's major dipinearnings past year, it appears that people have moved from one app to another altogether for their "story" needs. This feature will let Instagram send a notification when someone takes a screenshot of the user's story.
