Five wrestlers die in road accident in Maharashtra

Six killed including four wrestlers in a collision between two vehicles in Kadegaon Taluka of Sangli district. Among the 4 killed in the accident, one was a world champion in this category.

Five others, including wrestlers, were also injured in the mishap, police added. The deceased wrestlers have been identified as Shubham Gharge, Akash Desai, Vijay Patil, Saurabh Mane and Avinash Gaikwad.

The wrestlers were from the Kranti Kushti Sankul institution, which has dominated the state championships in recent years, and were expected to make the grade for Nationals soon.

A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act has been registered at the Chinchni-Vangi police station, he said. The driver of the accident fled the spot after the accident.
