Conte urges Chelsea to complete Sanchez deal

Three successive draws with Leicester City, Burnley and Southampton over the festive break saw United concede more ground on runaway leaders Manchester City, but Jose Mourinho's side returned to winning ways with a 2-0 success away to Everton on January 1.

Manchester City are not prepared to compete with Manchester United's offer for Arsenal's striker Alexis Sanchez.

Speaking before the match, Arsene Wenger said: "He is being vague at the moment".

"His situation is not completely decided one way or the other, so I left him at home".

"Don't read too much into it, because even I don't know really what way it will go". If Pep wants him again now, I'm sure he's thinking: 'I'm going to go there second time round and do it properly this time'.

That means paying Sanchez around £300k-a-week, but the club's owners, Fenway Sports Group, accept the need to pay big money if they are to finally win a Premier League title, and that they feel they would have a chance of netting Sanchez ahead of the Manchester clubs.

Wenger admitted on Friday that Sanchez would not be signing a new deal, paving the way for him to leave the club in the current transfer window, adding that a bidding war could help Arsenal.

Alexis Sanchez could join Manchester City by weekend
There is no doubt that the player would earn an extremely large amount of money at the Etihad but there could be more to that. Alexis Sanchez didn't travel with the Arsenal squad to Bournemouth and won't feature in Sunday's Premier League match.

So far, however, few analysts say the conditions are right for the protests to evolve into a revolution. Protestors reportedly chanted "death to the dictator" and "death to the Revolutionary Guards".

We think they'd be foolish to do it and that the American people would hold them responsible, but such has been their rhetoric. He claimed at his meeting that he would "sign" whatever Congress puts on his desk and wouldn't demand "this or that".

Manchester City were favourites to sign Sanchez, who is out of contract at the end of this season and has made clear he has no intention of staying at the Emirates Stadium, but Manchester United are reported to have joined the race for his signature.

But despite United's apparent eleventh-hour move for Sanchez, sources have told ESPN FC that the club has been quietly attempting to beat City to the player since last August. The Chilean's contract runs out in the summer and £25 million move in this window has always been in discussion.

Reports emerged on Thursday that United were keen to enter the race for Sanchez but there has been no confirmation from Old Trafford.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has spoken of his admiration for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, who he almost signed while managing Juventus. They are offering Arsenal £40 million including Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

It seemed as though the talented forward was settling in well with the Parisians, but Manchester United have registered their grave interest in the former Barca man, according to latest sources.

"I think Mkhitaryan's one of the best players in the Premier League, I honestly do".

Mancheter City will turn their attention from Alexis Sanchez and towards Shakhtar Donetsk's Brazilian midfielder, Fred.
