Starz Developing 'John Wick' TV Series Adaptation 'The Continental'

In an age where launching an original franchise - much less an entire cinematic universe - is incredibly hard, John Wick is the little intellectual property that could: in the span of a mere four years, the movie has received a sequel, the announcements of a trilogy-capper and a planned spin-off entitled The Ballerina, a comic series, and a video game in development. I think the world is very vast, and everything I've heard from it is very positive. "The Continental is going to be set in the John Wick universe at his hotel that is a refuge for assassins".

"The Continental" centers on the Los Angeles hotel of the same name that serves as a haven for assassins in the films starring Keanu Reeves.

John Wick is the latest film franchise to get a series treatment. The show will focus on the odd events that occur inside the hotel-for-assassins, The Continental, according to Deadline.

There is no estimated premiere date for the series at this time, but the third John Wick movie is expected to be released in 2019. As for Keanu Reeves as John Wick, "you can expect to see him at some point of the series", according to Starz's head of programming Carmi Zlotnik.

Tully: Trailer and Release Date for Jason Reitman's New Film
When she serves up a sad-looking frozen pizza for dinner, her older kids dig in, while husband Drew ( Ron Livingston ) snarks, "Frozen pizza".

"This series is truly unlike anything else on TV", said Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht in a press release.

The Continental will be executive produced by the same team behind the motion pictures, so there shouldn't be any fear that the show will stray that far from the features.

This is clearly a big step forward for the project, and hopefully a way for this universe to continue, even if John Wick: Chapters 3 winds up being the last of the films. Writer/producer Chris Collins (writer on The Wire, producer on Sons of Anarchy) will be showrunner and write The Continental. Chad Stahelski, the director of all three John Wick films, will direct the pilot episode.
