'Shazam' Movie Gets April 2019 Release Date

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. announced the release date for Shazam!

In the comics, Batson is a young orphan who is turned into Earth's mightiest hero after a mysterious wizard named Shazam chooses him to be a champion of good.

According to THR, Warner Bros. will release the super movie on April 5, 2019 where it now has no competition.

The film stars Zachary Levi, who plays the titular superhero, and Asher Angel, who plays Billy Batson, a young boy who turns into Shazam when he utters the name. "It" star Jack Dylan Grazer will play Freddy, Billy Batson's best friend.

Meanwhile, a separate film is being developed focusing on Shazam! villain Black Adam. "I get to be a superhero that's excited about being a superhero, and I think that's refreshing", he said. In 2014, New Line president Toby Emmerich told Entertainment Weekly that Shazam would "a tone unto itself", and added: "It's a DC comic, but it's not a Justice League character, and it's not a Marvel comic. Those guys are gonna do great with it".

Next on DC Films' release schedule is Aquaman, followed by Shazam, before a sequel to the hit Wonder Woman movie which Gal Gadot will return to for a starring role and Patty Jenkins will return to direct. The first is Wonder Woman 2, which will open on November 1, 2019. The April 2019 release also gives Shazam! a head-start on Avengers 4, which will open on May 3, 2019.
