Marks & Spencer hire Dixons Carphone's Humphrey Singer as new chief finance officer

Shares in Marks & Spencer Group (LON:MKS) have jumped in London this morning, as the blue-chip retailer announced that it had appointed Dixons Carphone's (LON:DC) finance chief as its new chief financial officer.

No start date has yet been confirmed for Humphrey Singer.

Marks & Spencer has boosted its management team by luring a director of Dixons Carphone to join the company.

Singer, who has been with Dixons Carphone since the company was created from the merger of Carphone Warehouse and Dixons Retail (and occupied the same role at Dixons before the merger), is set to stay with the company until July this year.

The company said that Mr Singer would replace Helen Weir, whose departure was announced previous year, not long after Archie Norman joined M&S as chairman.
