Maharashtra | Boat carrying school children capsizes in Dahanu; 32 rescued, 8 missing

At least four children have been feared killed after a boat carrying around 40 schoolchildren capsized off the coast of Dahanu in Maharashtra on Saturday.

25 students have been rescued while the operationas are still underway.

The students who were in the boat are from KL Ponda high school in Dahanu which is in Maharashtra's Palghar District.

2 ISVs deployed for patrolling in the area have been diverted for search and rescue along with 3 Coast Guard units already present in the area.

The Indian Coast Guard has diverted ships and pressed an aircraft and two choppers into rescue operations, the official said.

District Collector Prashant Narnaware told PTI that the incident occurred on Saturday morning off the Dahanu coast. Reports suggest that the boat capsized due to overload.
