The "Werkself" hoped for a late draw on home soil but Bayern Munich had an ace in the hole as James Rodriguez curled a late free kick over the wall into the top left corner to restore their two goal lead in the dying minutes of the game.

Bayern Munich travel to the BayArena on Friday night to face Bayer Leverkusen in their first Bundesliga game since the winter break.

Heynckes' side restarts the league on Friday at another of his former clubs, Bayer Leverkusen, which has lost only one of its last eight home games against Bayern and has made a solid start to the season under new coach Heiko Herrlich.

Heynckes confirmed at a news conference that Lewandowski and defender Mats Hummels will miss the trip to Leverkusen after the duo were unable to take a full part in training this week. However, Jupp Heynckes came out and told the media that Bayern would not be selling any players during the transfer window.

Leverkusen definitely don't want to start falling to the wrong end of that crowd, and a shocking win over Bayern would not only help them start to gain separation from the pack, it would help them gain some much-needed momentum to keep pulling away.

Bayern stepped up their preparations with a 5-3 win over third-division Grossaspach on Tuesday when veteran winger Franck Ribery, 34, scored three goals in a starring display. In the first half of the season, Bayern began brilliantly with a 3-1 win over Leverkusen.

- Heynckes to stay on?

The 72-year-old insists he will leave in May, having turned the team's fortunes around since replacing Ancelotti when Bayern were five points adrift of then-leaders Borussia Dortmund.

"The joy of playing is back again", said Mueller. Boom. The first firework set off by B04 coach Heiko Herrlich demonstrates the confidence pulsing through the veins of Friday's hosts, who are enjoying a run of 12 games without loss, now the Bundesliga's longest unbeaten sequence.

Bayern paid Hoffenheim around 13 million euros ($15.4m) last month for Wagner, who was signed as back-up for their top-scoring striker Robert Lewandowski.

The 46-year-old later said he was ashamed of his actions after dramatically tumbling to the ground after faint contact with Gladbach's Denis Zakaria in the technical area.
