Lenovo has a Google Home with a Display

Industry watchers are struggling to keep up with all the different devices that Amazon has partnered with on Alexa, but it's clear the company has been busy making friends with manufacturers over the past year. All these giants will launch their own smart displays in the coming months, later this year. JBL and Lenovo Group Ltd also are developing smart displays, Google said. "And in the auto a true automotive assistant, which knows what drivers want and how cars work, is probably a better choice for the "driving" end of that interface than a general objective assistant coming from the home environment".

Not so strangely absent from the consumer space is Cortana, Microsoft's virtual assistant. They're also going up against the might of Amazon, an established brand name synonymous with smart voice-controlled hubs, and the Amazon Echo Show will have a year's head start by the time these new hubs release in the US. The Show went on sale in June for $230 and the Spot in December for $130. The smart display will play music, display calendar, weather and Google Maps, among other things. Information related to the commands is brought up on the touchscreen. It just looks like a generic rectangular speaker with an awkwardly inserted 8-inch display in the middle.

Those include the top vendors like Acer, Asus, HP and Lenovo, all of whom are now prepping up to integrate the Alexa voice assistant on their upcoming notebooks and desktops.

With Alexa's entry to Windows 10 devices, the digital assistant now poses a greater threat to Siri and Google Assistant. The device will respond to requests and control smart tech, and the addition of a screen means it can display images and YouTube videos, and make video calls. With Amazon Alexa considered to be the leading assistant for the smart home, Google's been forced to demonstrate that Assistant is growing too.

Apple and Google could also exploit their positions as integral parts of the general population's lives: we all walk into work with either Siri or Google Assistant in our pockets.
