Jamb change in exam date for 2018 UTME

UI recommends 3,783 out of 56,000 for 2017/2018 Admission - Out of the total 56,172 candidates seeking to study at the University of Ibadan through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE), authorities of the institution have recommended 3,783 for admissions to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for the 2017/2018 academic session.

According to Oloyede, JAMB is envisaging mass purchase of the registration form shortly before the closing date, therefore the mock examination has been slated to hold in the first week of February across the country.

He said, "We are unable to access our CBT centres because majority are in the universities and non teaching staff are on strike".

He further lamented that in the previous year examination regime, candidates spent about N100 million for correction of errors caused by Computer Based Test (CBT) centres, stating that the board had gone ahead to correct the situation in advantage to the candidates.

He said, "No candidates, examiners, invigilators will be allowed to enter the examination hall with wrist watches, pencils except HB pencils ...and cameras". "These prohibitions are not only applicable to the candidates but also to all examination officials". The reasons for this will be provided shortly. "Scanned pictures of candidates are no longer accepted for registration, except live capture at the accredited CBT centres as part of the registration procedure with candidates' pictures embossed on all candidates' documents generated by JAMB".

Oloyede said, "There are 42 institutions queried by the minister for charging more than N2,000 for the post-UTME".

"This time around, candidates type their names by themselves and this would eliminates, wrong spelling of names and other data, and we are doing this so as to deprive those who are extorting from candidates", Oloyede stated.

The minister had warned tertiary institutions in the country against charging above the stipulated N2000 for the test to reduce the burden on parents.

"They have started refunding the money and the candidates are reporting back to us. He has put his feet down that all excess charges should be refunded", Oloyede said. In one case where the university could not trace the affected students, the minister directed that the money should be paid to a non-religious orphanage.

"In a particular case, a Proctor who was a lecturer in a Federal University was caught engaging in examination malpractice with candidates in the course of the examination he had been entrusted to supervise".
