After Google did not grant permission for Amazon's Echo Show to present YouTube content, Google thought it would be a good idea to make their assistant able to have YouTube content.

Finding Alexa or Google Assistant (or even both) inside a television or speaker is no longer a surprise, but as the smart home of the future finally becomes an attainable reality, artificial intelligence is appearing everywhere. The redesigned Google Store is part of the company's "revamped" consumer push to take down Amazon's assistant. This includes applications for devices from Nest and Philips as well.

There were signs at CES this month that the industry is aware of the potential privacy nightmare it could stumble into. "The risk with adding a display is that you're making it a little close to being a computer", he said. We'll likely see them in Australia, but pricing and availability are to be confirmed. Maybe it's a problem of marketing -the company was quick to point at Build in May that its smart assistant now has 141 million monthly users. Like a smart speaker, you can also listen to music on its powerful 10-watt full-range speaker.

Amazon didn't have any Fire TV news at CES, but Whitten said the company is continuing to work with TV makers on Fire TV Edition devices, while also incorporating some of the features first introduced on those devices into Fire TV streaming products. When I visited Vuzix's booth at CEs 2018, a representative told me that unlike Google Glass, Vuzix went out of its way to make the Blades comfortable, easy to use and most importantly, something that didn't look ridiculously clunky or awkward - so as to not scare off the general public.

Security to be a problem for Google?

The dilemma underscores just how similar Google's approach is to that of Amazon, which first brought Alexa to touchscreens on the Echo Show a year ago. Amazon had a head start over every other tech giant in the market with the launch of its Echo smart speaker in 2014, and Google has been playing catch-up ever since.

While most of us already own a couple of smart devices, it's only a tiny minority that live in a home where all the appliances can access the internet and share data with each other.

Ultimately, smart home gadgets are here to help simplify and streamline our lives, understanding voice commands instead of presses of buttons and taps of applications.
