In a private White House meeting on Thursday (Jan. 11), President Donald Trump reportedly remarked that Haiti and African nations are "sh*thole countries".

The group is "extremely appalled at, and strongly condemns the outrageous, racist and xenophobic remarks by the president of the United States of America as widely reported by the media", a statement added, demanding a "retraction and an apology".

"If elected, Mr. Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency", Bornstein wrote.

"My hope is that it will inspire individuals to say I'm going to live my life to prove them wrong, that statement wrong, the misconceptions wrong, or the labels wrong", Jacques said.

The host doubled down, saying, "The president meant those words".

"This statement shocks us a lot.as Africans but as black people too", said Senegalese teacher Mohamed Dieye, adding that "we do not need Americans or Europeans, we will go it alone".

That moment, though, should have critical to establishing the perception of candidate Trump and the potential pitfalls of his campaign: while U.S. Latinos immediately tried to tell the rest of the country that this man was unsafe and that his rhetoric would lead to even more hate-filled policies, America said "meh". Jessie Duarte of South Africa's ruling ANC said on Friday: "Ours is not a s***hole country and neither is Haiti or any other country in distress".

As he signed a proclamation marking the holiday next week honoring the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., President Trump on Friday recalled the civil rights leader's message that "no matter what the color of our skin or the place of our birth, we are created equal by God".

"Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?" the Washington Post quoted him as saying.

Democrats also condemned Trump's alleged comments.

In Senegal's capital Dakar, administrator Idrissa Fall said "we can not really say that he (Trump) is wrong".

Trump was 70 when he took office on January 20, 2017, making him the oldest person ever elected to the nation's highest office.

Trump's comments also reveal that this basic truth is shaping the White House's policy stances in the current immigration debate, something that is also being obscured with all sorts of rhetorical trickery.

Stephen Colbert's "Late Show" monologue also took on Trump's latest controversy.

"The President's physical exam today went exceptionally well", Dr. Ronnie Jackson said in a brief statement.
