Dark Souls II was already given the remaster treatment for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 back in 2014, under the subtitle Scholar of the First Sin. Also included is the soundtrack to all three games spread across six discs, ten art prints with a frame, and three item dictionaries which come with descriptions for every item found in the Dark Souls series. Bandai Namco did not say what the regular Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions' performance would be like, but did reveal that the Nintendo Switch version will be running on 1080p resolution at 30fps while docked. According to a press release, Dark Souls Remastered is being developed by From Software, the studio behind the original trilogy, instead of being outsourced to a third-party studio. It's also headed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

If you were envious of Europe's Dark Souls trilogy vinyl set, you might explode when you see what's on the horizon in Japan. Dark Souls Remastered will be available starting May 25. As of yet this has not been announced for other regions.

All of the game's contents, including DLC, should come with the remastered edition.

Dark Souls remaster coming to PC, XO, PS4, and Switch

Dark Souls has been a beloved entry in the Souls series.

In GameSpot's original Dark Souls review Kevin VanOrd awarded it a 9.5/10, describing it as "riveting". This is an exciting development for those who own a Switch and have never played Dark Souls before, but if the announcement got you Dark Souls veterans in the mood to give the game another go, then we've got some good news for you. Its terrors emanate from its very core, each step bringing you closer to another inevitable death. That could rely on how well the Switch version of Dark Souls: Remastered sells, but that's just speculation on my part.
