Russia considers the worldwide meeting on security on the Korean peninsula, which is due to be held in Vancouver next week, inappropriate amid signs of improvements in the South-North relations, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Friday.

US President Donald Trump yesterday suggested he could have a good relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, but refused to say if the two had spoken.

Canada and the United States are co-hosting the meeting in Vancouver on 16th of this month to demonstrate worldwide solidarity against North Korea's nuclear and missile tests.

State Department Director of Policy Planning Brian Hook briefed reporters on the meeting, which will be held on Tuesday in Vancouver, Canada.

The Vancouver meeting is expected to put a heavy emphasis on finding ways to crack down on the many smuggling and money-laundering schemes that Pyongyang has employed to sidestep sanctions and pay for its nuclear program.

Asked if he had spoken to Kim, Trump said "I don't want to comment on it". Russian Federation and China, the two nations with arguably the greatest sway over the regime, will not be there, making it unlikely the Vancouver meeting gathering will produce a significant breakthrough, Paris said.

Yet without Russian Federation and China, both of which have been involved in the so-called Six-Party Talks aimed at finding a peaceful resolution to North Korea's nuclear program, it's unclear what the Vancouver meeting can really achieve.
