The new Intel NUC (formerly code-named Hades Canyon) brings this powerful new processor and graphics solution into an incredibly tiny 1.20-liter system.

"Great for VR enthusiasts and workload-heavy content creators, it will be Intel's smallest premium VR-capable system in the market", Corinne Reichert of Intel said during the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

AMD Ryzen 2400G with Radeon Vega graphics benchmarks reveal impressive performance as compared to both the Intel integrated desktop and mobile graphics.

As is usually the case, there is no release date for the new Hades Canyon NUCs as of yet. The higher-end SKU (NUC8i7HVK) sports an unlocked Core i7-8809G quad-core processor running at 2.1GHz to 4.2GHz, with AMD's Radeon RX Vega M GH graphics running from 1,063MHz to 1,190MHz.

On the other hand, the NUC8i7HNK comes with Radeon RX Vega M GL graphics processor along with a 65W quad-core 8th generation Intel Core i7-8705G CPU again clocked at 3.1GHz and 4.1GHz turbo mode. The NUC8i7HNK will be available first with the VR-ready NUC8i7HVK following a few weeks later.

What really made me sit up, though, was the claims in the presentation that the processor can outpace an NVidia GTX 1060 GPU - one that I bought not that long ago specifically because it flies through 360 video work. The system can drive six independent monitors simultaneously, with one HDMI port is on the front, making it easy to plug in a VR headset.

In order to enable smooth and fast connectivity, Intel implemented dual Thunderbolt 3 ports and also dual Gigabit Ethernet ports as well. Both models also feature built-in 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

Intel announced the debut of Intel Studios, a newly constructed, state-of-the-art studio dedicated to the production of large-scale, volumetric content for the next generation of immersive media.
