Trump had hailed the late 2016 deal with the Carrier factory in IN, which he made shortly before becoming president, as keeping his campaign promise to save U.S. manufacturing jobs.

Under duress from the latterly elected Trump, Carrier and its parent company United Technologies Corp, shed its plans in late 2016 to shut the plant and relocate 1,400 factory jobs to Mexico.

Carrier factory worker Renee Elliott, who voted for Trump in the hopes that he would save her job, told a news conference Wednesday night that the president should have done more. Trump slammed the decision on the campaign trail and threatened to "tax the hell" out of Carrier's products. "They're not going to be announcing, like they did at Carrier, that they're closing up and they're moving to Mexico, over 1,100 jobs". He traveled to the Indianapolis factory weeks after his election win to announce a tax-incentive agreement partially reversing the closure and keeping some 800 furnace production jobs. The company became symbolic of Trump's focus on restoring manufacturing jobs in blue-collar regions, but the incentives deal Trump eventually struck was widely criticized as short-sighted, and several union leaders said the saved jobs would only be a temporary fix to a larger issue.

"We haven't seen anything that would indicate that he plans on living up to those promises and commitments", Jones said.

Carrier said this week that 1100 workers will remain at the factory, upholding its deal with Mr Trump.

He also said China and Russian Federation , which have not been invited, will be briefed on the discussions after the meeting. The so-called Vancouver Group is formed by the countries that fought in the 1950-53 Korean War.

United Technologies has announced the closure of another plant in IN, as well, and an industrial bearings plant a year ago also shuttered in the state to move to Mexico, laying off 350 workers. The deal includes Carrier investing $16 million for automation at the plant.

Some laid-off employees are getting a college education or vocational training at carrier's expense. It also said United Technologies plans to hire almost 25,000 people in the USA over the next three years.

President-elect Donald Trump gave one number on the amount of jobs that would be saved and a union president, another.

"I think, without a doubt, that there's a lot more he could do so we wouldn't be losing these jobs at the rate we are", Jones said.
