Revealed on Friday ahead of a likely debut at next week's 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Bentayga V8 sports a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 delivering 550 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. The engine produces 542bhp and 770Nm of torque, 0-62mph takes 4.5 seconds and it reaches a top speed of 180mph - despite its hefty kerb weight of 2,395kg.

It isn't the most efficient or emissions-friendly engine in the world though, as it guzzles fuel at a quoted 24.8mpg and emits 260g/km of Carbon dioxide emissions. A start-stop system helps the large SUV achieve these figures, as does a cylinder deactivation system, which switches four of the V8's cylinders off in certain conditions.

The restyled Bentayga V8 is the first Bentley to get optional carbon-ceramic brakes, which feature Tornado red 10-piston calipers in the front.

The Bentayga V8's sporty nature is underlined by the inclusion of Bentley Dynamic Ride, a system that minimises body roll in corners, along with advanced stability and traction controls systems.

The Bentley Bentayga will gain a third engine in its lineup: a V8 is making its way across the greater Volkswagen Automotive Group empire.

The usual array of active safety and driver assistance systems are standard or offered as options, including adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, park assist and even a night vision system.

Bentley's standard infotainment system is also fitted, featuring an 8in touchscreen, 60-gigabyte hard drive, and for passengers in the rear there's a 10.2in Android tablet device with 4G WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. Bentley also offers a Bentayga Diesel (also V-8-powered) outside the United States and this model has 429 hp and 664 lb-ft, which sees it hit 60 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds and top out at 168 miles per hour. There are three sound systems available, the most powerful of which has 18 speakers for incredible surround sound.

Speaking of wheels, the Bentayga will be available with a choice of 11 wheels designs (no, you can't mix and match), including a new 22-inch design finished in black with a polished finish.

Bentley hasn't announced availability but look for the Bentayga V8 to make its way into showrooms this spring. New options for the interior will include a new three-spoke wood and leather-trimmed steering wheel, as well as chestnut-colored Cricket Ball leather.

As with other versions of the Bentayga, the V8 is available in either four, five or seven seat configurations with cargo space ranging from 484 to 1,774 litres for the five seater.
