If you thought the Star Wars directing carousel was bad, the X-Men spinoff Gambit is officially looking for a new director, as is was announced that Gore Verbinski would no longer be a part of the project. It then brought in Gore Verbinski to take over director duties, but now it will need to find someone else to take the film to the finish line.

Channing Tatum remains attached to star as the comic book character - a New Orleans thief with the ability to turn anything he touches into a weapon - and Lizzy Caplan had been in talks for the female lead, though a new director may wish to recast the role if her deal isn't closed yet. First, it was Rupert Wyatt, then Doug Liman, and now Verbinsky. One assumes that the scheduled March production start will have to be called off, unless of course FOX can find a replacement director within the next two months. After news broke of Verbinski's exit, Fox said Gambit has pushed back its release date of February 14, 2019, to June 7, 2019. Previously set for release on Valentine's Day 2019, "Gambit" is now set to arrive June 7, 2019.
