Alyssa Alcaraz, of Visalia, died December 17 of cardiac arrest, which was brought on by septic shock from a strep infection in her blood, KFSN in Fresno reported. No one thought it would be the middle school student's last concert.

Her mother, Keila Lino, wrote on Christmas Day that the family visited Alyssa's favorite spot, bringing along some of the girl's stuffed unicorns, which she took everywhere.

The first signs of trouble came after Alyssa got home from school days earlier. "I remember she arrived home from college and that I was awakened and that I presumed she has probably received food-poisoning she's definitely going to be OK", sister Mariah Alcaraz recalled. Alyssa's mom, who did not want to go on camera, said doctors told them her daughter had the flu. Within hours, Alyssa's organs started shutting down and her family said she coded six times. Alyssa was held home from school for many days, however, her situation did not improve.

She was raced to Kaweah Delta Medical Center.
