Woman Assaulted And Paraded Nearly Naked by Liquor Mafia in Delhi

The police said the woman was not paraded naked, as alleged by the DCW chief. Not only this her clothes ripped apart before being paraded in the lanes of a JJ colony by a group of women in Narela on Thursday.

The Delhi Commission for Women has said the woman volunteer has "marks of iron rods on her body", and strongly condemned the attack on her and blamed police for the illegal liquor trade.

The victim is the mother of four children.

Police later revealed that the victim was a member of the Nasha Mukti Panchayat in the area and had helped them in the past in curbing sale of illegal liquor in the slums.

An angry DCW chairperson, Swati Jaihind, took to Twitter to condemn the attack.

"Sir, police protection needs 2 be provided to the woman & her family".

Police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code against the women involved in the incident. "Shame Delhi Police", Maliwal tweeted.

Police said they have arrested six men in connection with the attack on the woman, but denied the women was paraded naked. She has iron rod marks on body & is still hospitalised!

Delhi's L-G Anil Baijal confirmed the registration of an FIR and arrest of six accused in the case.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited Praveen in the hospital and said that the incident was shameful. Verma said, "The nearest police post from that place is around five kilometres away".

"This year so far the Delhi Police has stepped up action and registered 55 cases under the Excise Act in this area". Is there any law and order in Delhi?

On Wednesday, police were called to the spot and over 300 bottles of liquor were confiscated from the house which is barely a few metres away from the local police post, DCW added.

Maliwal claimed to have received several complaints from the women residents regarding sale of illicit liquor and drugs in certain houses in the area.
