One of the advantages of winning your Champions League group is that this guarantees that a team will not have to play one of the other seven sides who topped their group too.

While this is only the second time ever that a nation has had five teams in the Champions League group stages, the Premier League nearly made history back in 2005-06 by having five clubs in the competition.

The Champions League last-16 draw will take place in Nyon on Monday, December 11 at 11am GMT. The Bundesliga is a one- or two-horse race every year, La Liga has two, maybe clubs three vying for titles and PSG and Juventus have dominated Ligue 1 and Serie A recently.

However, the easy paths each team took to the Round of 16 must be taken into account. We now have a good idea of who'll dazzle us in the knockout rounds, as well as knowing who's going out altogether and who's going to feature in the Europa League.

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid both progressed all the way through to the final that season with Zinedine Zidane's side triumphing on penalties, but Sevilla and Valencia crashed out in the groups.

Tottenham Hotspur's 16 points atop Group H is the lone impressive performance in group play from an English club.

The draw for the last 16 of the Champions League will be a seeded draw and the winners of the eight groups will be seeded. This victory allowed the Catalans to reach the knockout stage of the tournament with first place in the group.

From that point onwards it is a free draw so group-stage rematches and any all-Premier League clashes could be back on the agenda from that point onwards.

Conte says Chelsea fear no-one in Europe's elite club competition, but reckons the strength in depth of the domestic league makes winning the European Cup hard for English clubs.
