Abductors Of Former Sports Minister Sango Demand N100m Ransom

As pressure mounts towards the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), gunmen Wednesday evening abducted the Plateau State Chairman of the party, Chief Damishi Sango, along the Kafanchan-Abuja highway. "They used his phone to reach the family", the source said. Sango was also allowed to speak with the family.

Akans confirmed that the kidnappers had contacted Sango's family and demanded N100m ransom.

A family member, Mr Jonathan Mapis, who spoke on the issue, said that the victims were abducted "around 5.30 p.m".

The PDP national convention, during which the election for the party's national executive will take place, is scheduled for Saturday.

However, the Kaduna State Police Command has said special forces had been dispatched to rescue Sango and four others.

"The spokesman of the Kaduna Police Command has told me that the Commissioner there has ordered his men to comb everywhere to rescue them", he had told NAN. Tyopev urged members of the public with any useful information to contact the Kaduna or Plateau Command. He left Jos about 2pm and was heading for Abuja in preparation for the PDP national convention.

"They are still with their abductors.We are waiting to see whether the kidnappers will reduce the ransom tomorrow".

In a telephone interview yesterday, Muktar said "the Inspector General of Police's (IG's) Anti-Kidnapping Team and the Special Tactical Squad (STS) have swung into action to recue the victims when we received a distress call at about 6p.m on Wednesday about the incident, which occurred along Kagarko-Jere road".
