US troops may become targets after US Jerusalem decision - Iraqi paramilitary group

Yesterday, US President, Donald trump is recognized as the capital of Israel is Jerusalem, not tel Aviv.

Shi'ite-majority Iraq is the only country to have an alliance with regional powerhouse Iran and the United States, who do not see eye-to-eye.

Officially, the Pentagon says it has 5,262 personnel in Iraq, but other figures released by the USA military have put the number at nearly 9,000.

The ministry also summoned U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Silliman to register its displeasure with the move, according to ministry spokesman Ahmed Mahjoob. Western world in general and Muslim world in particular, has condemned the decision.

"But it won't change the reality that Jerusalem is an occupied land which should return to the sovereignty of its Palestinian owners no matter how long it takes", it said.

The group, established in 2013 and supported by Iran's Revolutionary Guards, numbers around 1,500 fighters and is part of the Hashed al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilisation) auxiliary force that has fought alongside the army against the Islamic State group.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister's office said that Pakistan also unequivocally opposes shifting of the USA embassy to Al-Quds Al Sharif.
