The UFC is reportedly eyeing a heavyweight championship bout between Ngannou and reigning titleholder Stipe Miocic for UFC 220 on January 20 at the TD Garden in Boston, MMAjunkie's Simon Samano reports.

Already, the two combatants exchanged barbs even before the fight was announced.

Miocic last defended his championship back in May. If Miocic were to successfully defend his title, he would be breaking the record for most consecutive heavyweight title defenses in UFC history, cementing himself as one of the top heavyweights of all time.

The 31-year-old Ngannou laid waste to perennial heavyweight power player Alistair Overeem at UFC 218 on Dec 2, clobbering "The Demolition Man" with a left uppercut at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. He defeated Overeem via first-round KO at UFC 203 last September, before stopping former champion Junior dos Santos with a first-round TKO at UFC 211 in May.

UFC star Francis Ngannou could well be set for a fight against Britain's Anthony Joshua in 2018, according to the Cameroonian's manager Dewey Cooper.

Miocic finished off his fifth straight knockout victory by backing up dos Santos against the cage and flooring him with a right hand to the head. Miocic also enters the fight on a five fight winning streak and he hasn't suffered a defeat in over three years. His last four victories have all come in the first round, all ending within the first two minutes.

Ngannou is 11-1-0 in his professional MMA career and 6-0 since entering the UFC in 2015.
