A new report fresh from Japan is claiming that the Cupertino giant is in the process of developing a 6.1-inch handset with LCD screen.

Apple will launch a 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus, an updated iPhone X and a new, affordable LCD screen-sporting model with the same design as this year's flagship model. It's believed that it's harder for Apple to produce additional color options in the glass back design of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, hence why this year's models are available in fewer color variations than last year's. The source also said Apple is tentatively planning two new handsets equipped with organic light-emitting diode displays.

Apple launched the Apple iPhone X and the world went insane about it. Casetek, subsidiary of iPhone assembler Pagatron will win for sure as it is already testing casings for new LCD iPhone model.

First spotted by GizmoChina, Nomura claims that LCD display iPhone which is expected to launch in 2018 will feature an edge-to-edge design similar to the iPhone X. There will be a single camera setup on the rear and is also expected to come with FaceID feature. Casetek now supplies Apple with LCD screens for its iPads, so it could also be tapped by Apple to supply the new iPhone model with LCD panels. This is in line with what noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has said.

Nomura has claimed that the 2018 iPhone LCD model will share the same edge-to-edge display that the current iPhone X boasts. The phone will come alongside another OLED phone which will be the "Plus" model of the 5.8-inch iPhone.

The low-end LCD device out of the three will be assembled by Pegatron and possibly Wistron.

We're still a ways off from Apple introducing next year's iPhones, so this report should be taken with a grain of salt at this point.

Apple is reportedly working on a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone that's scheduled for release in 2018.
