Neil Patrick Harris filled in for Jimmy Kimmel last night on his show and had some good news to share with fans.

Jimmy Kimmel's 7-month-old son has had a successful second round of heart surgery.

"I'm thrilled his son Billy's heart operation was a success". He is recovering very well.

"Jimmy and I can't go anywhere without someone coming up and thanking him for that monologue", McNearney said. "Billy is a courageous little boy and it's heart-wrenching - literally". "I'm so glad he's doing well".

"We were brought up to believe that we live in the greatest country in the world but until a few years ago, millions and millions of us had no access to health insurance at all", Kimmel said in May. Bill Cassidy "lied right to my face" by going back on his word to ensure any health care overhaul passes a test the Republican lawmaker named for the late night host.

Harris anchored Wednesday's show with guests Vanessa Kirby and Jules Sylvester while McCarthy will play host to Octavia Spencer and Dave Franco on Thursday.

Neil delivered the opening monologue for Jimmy during the show.

The baby, Billy Kimmel, had been scheduled to have the surgery in October, but it was postponed because of household colds. But now, Kimmel's wife and head writer Molly McNearney has weighed in, too, with her own perspective on the hard choice to make their son's medical struggles public.

Little did McNearney or Kimmel realize, the remarks would strike quite a nerve in the public discourse as debate over health care was heating up at the same time.
