On the defection of a former vice President Atiku Abubakar, to the PDP, he said that "there is strength in numbers; the party will always welcome as many persons as possible".

However, he left the APC about a week ago and later announced that he was returning to the PDP last Sunday.

"He (Atiku) is a Nigerian; he is allowed to go to any party and our constitution allows it. So, it is not new and there is nothing wrong for politicians to move from one party to another", he said on Wednesday.

He said fear was the reason why the ruling party had not been able to organise a national convention for many years.

"We believe that as many persons that come into the PDP is good for us because it will help to strengthen the party because politics is one that is inclusive; the more persons you get into the party, the greater the strength of the party".

While he said that President Muhammadu Buhari was not part of the plot, he however called on him to urgently investigate the allegation and ensure that the convention was not disrupted by some "overzealous elements in the APC government".

On his part, Governor Okowa said the visit was in line with the tradition of the party to PDP elders and leaders for the right decisions to be taken, especially as the convention draws closer. We have credible information that some overzealous elements in the government are trying by any means to disrupt the convention of the PDP; to make sure this convention does not hold successfully.

He urged members of the PDP to remember that the majority of the masses are looking up to them to rescue this land and take it forward to her days of plenteous harvest. "We thank the Caretaker Committee of our party because they have done a lot ahead of the inauguration on Monday, and since then, we have held several meetings".

"The various sub-committees are really working very hard".

On reports that the Chairman of the electoral panel and former governor of Benue State, Mr Gabriel Suswan, had declared support for a candidate, Okowa said: "I am not aware that he has declared support for any particular candidate but even if he has any sentiments for anyone, he will not be in a position at all, on the convention day to do anything that is unjust".

"It is not from the very top; they know that if we have a hitch-free convention, it will mark the end of APC in power".

For security measures, Adeyeye said that accreditation for the convention would be strictly monitored. Ekos Akpokabayen has appealed to the party members worldwide to work towards achieving the most desired and expected success in the upcoming National convention.

"It is not the first time we find states making use of statutory delegates to avoid conflicts that have to do with the legitimacy of elected delegates".
