Friday snow in the sky but will it stick on the ground?

Another surge of colder weather will arrive Friday night and send temperatures into the middle 30s across the Pee Dee. High temperatures will top out around 70 to the low 70s across southeastern North Carolina.

This would be the first snow event of the winter season and it's only happening because of the cold front that moved through Wednesday morning.

Wednesday's highs will likely come in the morning. That will keep mostly cloudy skies and off an on rain chances in the forecast through the end of the week.

Brighter weather returns for the weekend, but it's no justice sunshine as cold air is reinforced by a fast-moving clipper storm to our north. However, as the depth of cold air increases, snow and sleet can mix with rain Friday night.

A cold rain continues, at times, through Friday.

If any snow does fall in the Upstate, the best chances for accumulation would be in the far northern parts of the area. Highs in the mid 40s to near 50 are forecast for Saturday and Sunday.

Snow accumulation will be very minor and only on grassy and elevated surfaces northwest of the Triangle.

Area roads will stay wet as they are too warm to accumulate snow, therefore travel late Friday night and early Saturday morning should not be hazardous. Lows may dip to 28 degrees on Saturday morning. Only a chilly rain is expected here in eastern North Carolina.
