The worldwide football federation, FIFA, has lifted a two-year suspension against Kuwait's football association that has prevented the country from participating in global tournaments.

Qatar, Iraq, Oman, Kuwait and Yemen will be the teams participating with Oman coach Pim Verbeek announcing a camp by calling up 26 probables on Wednesday.

FIFA banned Kuwait's national football federation in 2015 over alleged government interference in the running of the country's football governing body.

Kuwait had to miss the qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup as well as the 2019 Asian Cup because of the FIFA ban thereby depriving the football fans of the country the chance to see their team in action in high-profile tournaments.

Following the lifting of the FIFA suspension Kuwait can now participate in the Gulf Cup tournament scheduled to take place in Qatar later this month

Technically the tournament can go ahead with five nations but that can only happen if Kuwait takes part - and until today the Kuwaitis remained suspended by FIFA despite the recent election of a new-look federation.

QFA chief Sheikh Hamad congratulated Kuwait saying it was a happy occasion for Kuwait as well as for the Gulf Cup football fans. This will signal the return of Kuwaiti football back to normal.
