Ed Sheeran just collected his MBE from Prince Charles

"Fans were quick to praise the star, with one writing: "@edsheeran deserves this award and so much more for everything he does to make this world a better place", while another added: "Congratulations Ed Sheeran picked up his MBE from Prince Charles for his music and charity work".

But after three albums and countless performances, the 26-year-old has been awarded an MBE for his services to the music industry at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Singer Ed Sheeran with his MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) medal that was presented to him by the Prince of Wales during an Investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace, London.

Sporting a blue tie, long black jacket, light blue waistcoat and grey pants outside the ceremony at Buckingham Palace afterwards, Sheeran spoke to reporters.

"I think talent is like 30 percent of it and persistence, drive and self-belief are the other ones, which I guess are all the same thing".

He also said his late grandfather Bill was a "massive royalist".

At the end, Ed had a brief conversation with Prince Charles and told him that he was travelling to NY tomorrow for another gig.

"But he's such a sweet nice guy, really friendly, proper family man, very musical, I really enjoyed my time with him".

He works with a range of charities including East Anglia's Children's Hospices, of which the Duchess of Cambridge is a patron.

He said he was dashing off to have a celebratory curry with his parents, John and Imogen Sheeran, in central London, before catching his flight to NY.
