Backstage News On Matt Hardy's 'Woken' Character And His Creative Freedom

He and Impact Wrestling spent most of the year facing road blocks from Anthem, who laid claim to the Broken characters, despite Matt Hardy coming up with the idea and using characters that were not under Impact Wrestling contract. It became so popular on Impact that there were specially directed segments, matches and even an entire edition of Impact dedicated to the Broken Brilliance. It was noted by one source who told Barrasso that McMahon is such a believer in Hardy's passion for the character that Hardy will be allowed a creative license over it, with McMahon seeing opportunity in the already established character. The possibility remains that Hardy will eventually work out a deal with Anthem for the rights to the "Broken" character, though the two sides are not now talking. If the "Woken" character succeeds in WWE, there might be no need for the "Broken" moniker.

Knowing that Matt has Vince's blessing for the creative liberties of this gimmick makes me a very happy man and I look forward to seeing WOKEN Matt Hardy on the next edition of Monday Night Raw!
