Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus pricing leaked ahead of launch

With the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus launch event around the corner, Xiaomi is in overdrive mode in promoting the handset online. Most of the specs were leaked on TENAA, while the MIUI 9 was announced by the company.

The new smartphone, priced at Rs 4,999, comes with a metallic matte finish and has a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion, Xiaomi Regional Business Head South and East, Sunil Baby told reporters. The website also shows a disclaimer with the Redmi 5 smartphones that the devices are still in the pre-sale stage, indicating the listed specifications may not be final.

According to a AliExpress listing, the Redmi 5 price will be $199.99 (roughly Rs. 12,900) for the 2GB RAM and 16GB storage model. The company has, however, not revealed the price of the smartphones yet.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is rumoured to feature a 5.9-inch full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 450 SoC compared to the Snapdragon 435 processor inside the Redmi 4.

While the next-gen Redmi smartphone is expected to come with a new design language and updated hardware, past reports suggests the cameras will not see a major bump. The phone will sport a 12MP camera on the rear while a 5MP camera on the front. The smartphone is listed to run Android 7.1.2, tipping an MIUI 9 build out-of-the-box.

The Xiaomi device should be launch in three different storage options, which includes 2GB RAM variant with 16GB storage, 3GB RAM variant with 32GB storage and also with 4GB RAM variant supporting 64GB internal storage.
