"I think that was one of the worst half an hours, that first half an hour when I realized what I had done", she told ITV's "This Morning," per the Guardian of the incident that happened in October.

Discussing how the mistimed Tweet had managed to make it onto the net, Prue explains that she had been overseas during the broadcast of the season finale and had mixed her United Kingdom times up.

'I was Bhutan, I had not had any reception, so when I turned on my phone, there was this mass of tweets.

She added: "I quickly tweeted, as soon as it went I thought: 'Oh my God!'" Unsurprisingly, Leith didn't discuss her faux pas in the immediate aftermath of the finale due to embarrassment, but she's now opening up about how "awful" and "suicidal" she felt, which was attributed to her confusing travel schedule.

"The thing that upset me most was that I thought that this would take attention off the victor and Sophie has worked for months and months for this moment - and the column inches are going to be about my tweet and not her triumph".

Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith has said she felt "suicidal" after she accidentally revealed the name of this year's victor ahead of the final. The thing that upset me the most was this would take attention off the victor.

'But I emailed her and she said, "Don't be silly".

And appearing on ITV's This Morning on Wednesday, she admitted to feeling "suicidal" over the error.

Forgetting about the time difference, Leith then tweeted the identity of the victor, Sophie Faldo.

It was then that she rushed to share the tweet and went in to "panic mode" when she realised that she had revealed the news millions of fans had been patiently waiting weeks for. We kept it secret, we had kept it secret for eight years until I came along!'

The misguided tweet was swiftly deleted, but not before it began circulating on the web and the surprise was ruined for thousands of fans. I wanted them all to win. It turns out Leith was in Bhutan for a work trip, and suffered from a simple case of mixing up the time-zones.

With another season of the Great British Bake Off officially over for another year running, it's fair to say we're still thinking of all things cake.
