Beamdog announced today that its next project will be Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition, sticking with classic Bioware RPGs, but moving forward into the 3D space. Some of the most noteworthy examples include Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II. It will be interesting to see how this new version will shape up, especially since it will be based on Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition. The game will have some advanced graphics shaders, updated translations, bug fixers and 4ksupport.

Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition will feature improved display, advanced graphics settings, and will be backwards compatible with older saves. And now it's getting an "enhanced edition".

Backwards Compatibility: Works with save games, modules, and mods from the original Neverwinter Nights. Two soundtracks of original music and a new portrait pack is also included. It combined the essence of Dungeons & Dragons, allowing gamers to develop, act and share as Dungeon Master.

Neverwinter Nights was one of the titles with which BioWare cemented a reputation as one of the world's leading RPG studios. Even if the name of the new edition might suggest a HD remake, the improvements are clearly not about that.

It will be $US20 ($27) when it's out.sometime in the future (though some preorder customers will be given access to a beta). You can tune into Beamdog's Twitch livestream tomorrow at 12pm PST to presumably find out the release date, and more. If you are a fan of the fame, you should not miss it.
