Salvation Army bell ringing kicks off

"We have about 40% of shift left to fill so there's lot of opportunity left to get involved and help make a difference".

The Salvation Army Glendale hopes to raise $100,000 this year from its Red Kettle program during the holidays.

If you would like to volunteer to man a kettle site for an hour or two contact the Salvation Army at 419-224-9055 extension 2-1-1. To maximize donations, they're still in need of volunteer bell ringers throughout the campaign. The money is used to fund services provided by the Salvation Army.

Dallas has the highest child poverty rate among big cities with 38 percent of DFW area children living in poverty, according to Dallas News. "It helps with our emergency food services... a year ago we provided more than 20 thousand bags of groceries to individuals and families", said Maria Sadowy from the Kingston branch.

Also slated to perform at the show are special guests Chase Bryant and Lindsay Ell . The tour will stop at North Little Rock's Verizon Arena on April 12.

"We could be helping with a utility bill or with rent", she said. "It supports us year round so we're able to help people and restore hope and dignity on a daily basis and help people out of the cycle of poverty".

From its humble beginnings as a fundraiser started by a Salvation Army Captain in San Francisco in 1891, the Red Kettle Campaign has grown into one of the most recognizable and important charitable campaigns in the United States. This year's goal is $670,000.
