"Based on additional information, NCAA staff reconsidered and granted NC State's transfer waiver request for Braxton Beverly, allowing him to compete immediately", the tweet read. He chose to transfer two weeks later with a full release from Ohio State and a letter of endorsement from Matta to the NCAA.

After the NCAA twice ruled him ineligible to play for the N.C. State Wolfpack this season, the freshman guard was granted immediate eligibility on Tuesday and will be in uniform for the Wolfpack's game with Bryant Tuesday night at PNC Arena. The coaching change led Beverly to reconsider his decision to attend Ohio State and eventually transfer to NC State a month later.

Beverly originally committed to play at Ohio State, a program that's fallen off a cliff in the past few years.

Beverly, a 5-foot-11 point guard, is a Kentucky native who spent his final two high school seasons starring at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia.

The transfer rule has been waved a fair amount for extenuating circumstances-all Penn State football players were permitted to transfer and compete right away after the Jerry Sandusky scandal, for example, and the sit-out rule is often waved if a player is moving closer to home to be with a sick loved one. But that triggered the NCAA designation as an undergraduate transfer as opposed to an incoming freshman.
