Newcastle have made a positive start to life back in the Premier League and now sit 11th in the standings but Benitez has made it very clear that he wants reinforcements at St James' Park.

However, it doesn't appear that Torres will see out the remainder of his career at the Wanda Metropolitano, with the Spain worldwide informing his representatives to secure him a move away from the Spanish capital in January, having only started one La Liga game, this term.

Torres has fallen down the pecking order at Atletico Madrid this season and will likely slip further down in January after Diego Costa can play for the club.

The Spaniard has always had a keen eye for goal and clearly has a good working relationship with Rafa Benitez as the pair have worked together at both Liverpool and Chelsea.

Previous year he returned to Atletico Madrid, where he began his career.

Torres enjoyed some of his best years under Rafa Benitez at Liverpool.

According to the Mirror, Torres has expressed his desire to his representatives to join on loan in January.

He plans to retire at the end of his deal and wants to play as much as possible in the last season before he hangs up his boots.

He is hoping that either of the two clubs will convince Atletico to let him spend the rest of the season back in England.

The report also claims that Torres, who has 246 club career goals in 693 games, including 81 in 142 matches for Liverpool, only has 18 months left on his current deal.
