Air quality: State ignored warning signs for a mth

The alarming level of pollution in Delhi-NCR may hit tourism in the region as November and December are the peak months for foreign travellers to visit India and majority of them opt for the Golden Triangle tourist circuit - Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, Assocham said on Saturday.

According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), which found the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) value to be 468 on the day, "severe" air quality is bad enough to affect healthy people and seriously impact those with existing diseases.

The runway at Indira Gandhi International Airport has been closed.

He said, in the last two days the air quality index has shown improvement, which was hovering in the severe zone. Over 20 flights have been delayed so far.

The low visibility has affected road and rail traffic.
