Majid Majidi's Beyond the Clouds to have Indian premiere this month

With tradition dominating over the women empowerment, the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has dropped Ravi Jadav's Marathi film, "Nude" as well as Sanal Kumar Sasidharan's Malayalam film, "Sexy Durga", re-titled as "S Durga" from the 9-day International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which opens in the city on November 20. These films were selected by a 13-member jury for the screening at the film festival. His hunch is that the Ministry has gone by the title and rejected it outright, without even bothering to watch the film.

The acclaimed Iranian filmmaker, who is also the recipient of several prestigious awards and honors moves to India for the first time and makes a film out of his country, an experience which he describes as "one waiting for years to happen". It is about nude modelling, a nude model's dilemmas, and how she can't disclose her profession to her son. "It is an emotional film in which we have handled the subject artistically, with a lot of dignity", he says. Naturally, the IB Ministry had chose to override the jury decision, without consulting the jury members.

An aggrieved member of the jury, who did not want to be named, told Mirror that both the movies should not have been on the list of 153 films submitted to them by the National Film Development Corporation (NDFC) if they found them objectable for any reason.

According to sources, the Assamese film Xhoixobote Dhemalite and the Odiya movie Khyanikaa have replaced Nude and Sexy Durga. But, the final list released yesterday by the I & B Ministry did not feature the two movies. A statement issued by the ministry has informed that the feature film section of the Indian panorama will now kick off with Vinod Kapri's Hindi film, "Pihu".
