Los Angeles district attorney creates task force for Hollywood sex abuse cases

As of Wednesday, the LAPD was investigating allegations involving Weinstein, Westwick, screenwriter and film director James Toback, director Roman Polanski, Hollywood agent Tyler Grasham and actor Terry Crews, according to LAPD Officer Drake Madison, a spokesman.

In response to recent sexual assault allegations against major Hollywood figures, Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey launched a special task force that will evaluate the complaints, she announced Thursday.

The task force includes specially trained deputy district attorneys and veteran sex crimes prosecutors to work together to ensure a uniformed approach to the legal review.

Sex crimes cases can be hard to prove. Numerous alleged incidents occurred years ago, and detectives need to determine whether physical evidence or witness statements exist that can help build cases. Here's what Lacey had to say in a statement about the newly formed LAPD task force. "But people shouldn't get their expectations up".

Now that the magnitude of Hollywood's sexual abuse problem has come to light, the Los Angeles Police Department announced Thursday it will be creating a special task force dedicated exclusively to investigating claims of harassment and abuse.

Almost 70 women have come forward with allegations about Harvey Weinstein, who is also being investigated by New York City prosecutors.

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating at least two allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and one against "Gossip Girl" actor Ed Westwick. Though, all three have denied the claims brought against them.

The Crown Prosecution Service normally reviews any evidence to deem if an individual has a case to answer.
