The Bianconeri have been after the German youngster for months and initially attempted an approach this summer, but Liverpool refused to let him go.

But, according to the Daily Star, the Serie A giants will face competition from Manchester City next summer.

Reports claim that Can would be tempted by the opportunity to work with City boss Pep Guardiola, who has high hopes of winning major honours over the coming seasons, and wants the midfielder to be a part of it.

If Can does make the short journey from Anfield to the Etihad, it would be a little payback after Liverpool snatched James Milner on a Bosman from City in 2015, despite repeated attempts to keep the England worldwide in Manchester.

Can arrived at Anfield three years ago on a £10m-worth deal from Bayer Leverkusen, and has since become a popular player for Jurgen Klopp's team.

UEFA rules allow Can to start negotiating a possible contract with any foreign club starting in January, which could give Juve the upper-hand in terms of a potential chase with City for his signature, but the German could simply decide to wait until the summer before making a decision on his future.

'I have no problem with that [but] we have to respect when a contract ends.

Can would join fellow German internationals İlkay Gündoğan and Leroy Sané were he to join Man City, and could potentially replace Yaya Touré who is out of contract in June and unlikely to receive another extension.

Juventus have allegedly told German midfielder Sami Khedira to "charm" global teammate Emre Can as the Italian champions step up their efforts to sign the Liverpool man.
