Mother Left Child In Hot Car During Jail Visit

Rachel Etienne, 21, didn't say anything while leaving jail shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday.

Rachel Etienne, 21, left her daughter sitting in her vehicle with the engine off while Etienne was visiting someone at the jail in Orlando, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

The temperature in Orlando at the time was 91 degrees with a heat index of 110 degrees.

A 21-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after she left her 3-year-old child alone in a vehicle outside the Orange County Jail, deputies said.

According to the arrest report, the child was found drenched in sweat and the vehicle was locked with the engine off and windows slightly cracked.

The young mother faces a charge of child neglect.

The Florida Department of Children and Families placed the child in the custody of a relative.
