The gunman later killed himself.

Another senseless and horrifying mass shooting has befallen our nation and this one was far more tragic than any other in modern USA history.

It is tempting to say that another day brings another deadly shooting toll in the United States, but this time the attack on an open-air concert in Las Vegas is the worst of its type in recent history.

"Last night, Americans were met with gunfire from a terrorist using a weapon meant for war".

"There are some ways to do full automatic whereas you can't stop them until they're empty. Now is the time for us to come together in mourning, but unity without action is not enough".

Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill are focused on convincing Trump to break with his party and pressure Republicans to take action on gun control.

Warren tweeted on Monday, "Tragedies like Las Vegas have happened too many times".

He was also asked if the massacre, which killed at least 59 and injured hundreds of others, could have been prevented.

Trump added that "on a local level" Puerto Rico needed to "give us more help". Right now, people are calling out for more laws to go into effect banning more and more styles of guns.

In all his Senate career Murphy has been an anti-Second Amendment crusader, so much so that his websites greet you with the message "Congress must pass comprehensive legislation to make our communities safer from gun violence". Yet with Republicans in control of both chambers and the White House those efforts are unlikely to gain traction. "I hope they will find strength in the love and kindness in those around them", said Mitch McConnell (KY-R).

Despite all the evidence that says otherwise, Ryan and his ilk don't see a correlation between lax gun laws and mass shootings. The thoughts and prayers of politicians are cruelly hollow if they are paired with continued legislative indifference.

Mr Trump then headed to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police headquarters, where he met police officers and dispatchers who had responded to the shooting.

The another senator from Connecticut, Richard Blumenthal also called for gun control legislation.

It is the first mass shooting under Trump's watch as his ability to console the nation is already being tested by his administration's response to hurricanes in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico.
