Gore Verbinski To Direct GAMBIT With Channing Tatum

According to Deadline, Verbinksi is now in negotiations with 20th Century Fox to helm the project, which is set to star Channing Tatum as the Cajun superhero who can charge objects with explosive energy, his object of choice being playing cards.

While Channing Tatum is still ultra-hot for the project, the seductive Gambit could therefore have found a new conductor in the person of Gore Verbinski.

Tatum has been attached to the film since about 2014.

"Pirates of the Caribbean" filmmaker might direct the new X-men spinoff.

Verbinski, however, is the biggest name yet. He's a proven hit maker who just happened to have a brief stint in director gaol after the disastrous The Lone Ranger. Will Verbinski be different, and actually see it through?

We contacted Fox for comment but had not heard back at time of writing.

Channing Tatum is confirmed to play Gambit and he previously admitted landing the role meant a lot to him because he relates to the Southern character on many levels.

Joshua Zetumer wrote the script for "Gambit", which does not yet have a release date. Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) exited in October 2015, while Liman (American Made) left in August 2016.
